Maintaining your freshly sanded wood floor

How to clean and maintain your wood floor?

You have just had your wood floor sanded and it looks as good as new. Now how do you keep this lovely wood floor clean and looking as it does now?

Let’s face it – It will get dirty! Your cleaning regime is the only weapon you have.

Here are a few tips on keeping your wood floor clean.

Regular dry soil removal:

The big enemy of wood floors and the finish on them is dry soil and grit wearing the finish off the floor. To keep your floor free from dry soil you can use a good quality soft broom or floor duster (in the clean and go kit) or you can use a vacuum cleaner with a special soft floor attachment.

Your furniture is yet another consideration. We strongly recommend Felt pad protectors under all your furniture. These are not just ordinary pads – They come with replacement pads that can easily be clipped out to be renewed. They also screw in thus last much longer and are much safer for your floor.

1-CLEANING ROUTINE

Here is a video showing the correct procedure:

It is crucial your daily or weekly cleaning of your wood floor

is done correctly.

For routine light cleaning use Pallmann Clean and Go care Kit

The wood care Kit consists of

  • Flat Mop and handle

  • Duster pad

  • Microfiber Cleaning Pad

Dust the floor using the duster in the kit. Then use the spray cleaner and microfiber pad on the mop to spray and mop your wood floor. This method is for light touch up cleaning only.

For heavily soiled floors it is advised to use a Mop and Bucket system with Pallmann Neutral Clean. http://bit.ly/1PQc4LN

Make your cleaning solution mix as described on the bottle. – It is best to use a 2 bucket system – One bucket to rinse your mop in clean cold water ad another bucket that contains your cleaning solution.

Wet your mop in the clean water (1st bucket) and wring it out. Dip the tips – (3 – 6 inches) into the cleaning solution (2nd bucket) and wring your mop out well. Now start mopping your floor ensure it does not leave too much moisture on the floor.

After cleaning about 3 – 5 sq meters rinse the mop in the clean water of the rinse bucket and dip the tips of the mop (3 – 6 inches) into the cleaning solution bucket – wring out and repeat as above.

Let the floor dry and return to normal use. If it is a large area replace the rinse water when it start to look dirty.

Why do we advise the above method?

Simple – if you mop a floor with a single compartment mop bucket you will collect the dirt on the floor and contaminate your cleaning solution with this. You will then keep spreading this onto the floor every time you rinse your mop in the solution

PLEASE NOTE:

 – DO NOT PLACE METAL FURNITURE IN DIRECT CONTACT WITH YOUR WOOD FLOOR AS THIS CAN CAUSE MARKS

– FLOOR PROTECTORS AS DESCRIBED AS ABOVE IS STRONGLY ADVISED

2- OIL AND LACQUER FINISH

Top-up Refresher for oiled floors

TOP UP OIL – Magic Oil Care (available in 0.75 Litre or 5 Litre)

Within the first few weeks after your floor has been finished it is advised to apply 2 coats of Magic oil Care on to your oiled floor. This is applied undiluted. Allow to dry for up to 2 hours before traffic can commence.

Over time the floor will tone down after use. To give the floor a fresh lift it is best to apply a coating of Magic Oil Care to the floor after a clean. Please watch THIS VIDEO showing the Application Method.

Mix 50 Ml of Magic Oil Care in 1 Litre of water. The maintenance top up is done using the flat microfiber mop in your care kit and apply a very thin layer of Magic oil care mixed with water evenly to the floor (apply an even sheen to the surface only). This should be done when the floor appears a bit dry or every 3 – 6 months depending on use. In cases where the floor is very dry Magic Oil care can be applied neat as described above.

If Magic Oil Care is applied in a room or commercial setting where high traffic cause traffic lanes it is advised to touch up only the traffic lanes with coating of Magic Oil Care as required. If the whole floor is covered it can cause a build up around the edges of the room. If unsure please contact us for information
